Looking ahead, Food For Life Nepal is committed to continuing its support to governments and aims to provide meals to over 25,000 school children by the year 2032 AD.
His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada (1896-1977) is regarded as the foremost Vedic scholar, translator, and teacher of the modern era. The Food for Life project is a modern-day revival of the ancient culture of hospitality. Since the beginning of recorded time, food sharing has been a fundamental part of the civilized world. In Nepal, such hospitality was based on the understanding of the equality of all beings.
Looking out of a window, one day in Mayapur in 1974, a village near Calcutta, His Divine Grace
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada saw a group of children fighting with stray dogs over scraps of food. From this simple, yet heart-breaking incident was born a determination that no child within a radius of ten miles from our center should go hungry. Following his directive and inspired by his vision, Food for Life Nepal initiated a school mid-day meal program on September 4th, 2015. The program commenced by providing mid-day meals to 18 children in a school in Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu. The objective was to support underprivileged children by offering them proper nutrition to enhance their education, addressing two critical challenges simultaneously-malnutrition and illiteracy.
